The study, published in the journal Diabetologia is done in the UK, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain and Netherlands.

A total of 350,000 people were interviewed about their diet. This interview is part of a large-scale European study to determine the association of cancer with diet.

"Consumption of drinks with high sugar like soda increases the risk of diabetes. Increasingly taken per day, the higher the risk," says Dora Romaguera, the lead researcher from Imperial College London.
